The importance of forests<\/h4>\n\t\t\t

Forests are ecosystems that preserve biodiversity, protect water and soil and capture carbon. The annual carbon capture of forests in the Basque Autonomous Community can be estimated based on the average growth of timber, which reaches 3.4 million m3\/year. That growth is multiplied by 275 kgC\/m3 (kg of carbon contained in a cubic metre of wood). That is why proper forest management is important.<\/p>\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\"PEFC\"\n\t\t

Wood that comes from our mountains. Because we use a natural and renewable resource that is just a few kilometres from our plant, the carbon footprint and life cycle analysis of our products are very low. And the sectorial DAP of our product shows it. In comparison with similar products we have a much more sustainable product that also contributes to mitigating climate change.<\/p>\t\t\n

In the Basque Country the natural resource that is most prevalent and most used for bioeconomic transformation and generation is wood. We have an area of standing forests of 55%, which is significantly higher than the European average of 40%. Because of that, it is important to implement R&D for developing new products made of wood that can replace many other products made from petroleum derivatives that pollute a lot more.<\/p>\n\t
